Hello!

I’m Maya.

Hello! I’m Maya Reeves. I’ve been a Licensed Massage Therapist since passing the New York state board in 1998. I started with working at several spas and wellness clinics in New England. Then I decided to get away from the cold so I moved to Las Vegas to work in a few luxury spas.

In May of 2007 I visited my sister in Austin and instantly fell in love with the cool weird vibe of the town and the explosion of wild flowers everywhere. By July I’d moved my family here and made it my home. Austin has inspired me with its big city/small town feel and thanks to the support of the clients I’ve been working with for over a decade, I’ve decided to make the push to go out on my own.

This has been the journey that has led to The Pampered Platypus opening in Austin Texas.

The Pampered Platypus is a hybrid Massage and Wellness Business. Offering both Mobile in home massage and a Private Spa setting. My focus is to guide my Clients to better daily well-being through focused bodywork, skin care and coaching on self-care between sessions.

Each massage session is completely customized to my Clients’ needs using multiple modalities. As an example: Your shoulders may need focused deep tissue and trigger point work, but your goal for improved sleep will respond best to Swedish massage based work.

What I love most about my chosen career is how individual it is. I dedicate all my education and experience to creating the perfect session for each client. My clients’ needs can change week to week and I love meeting that challenge. The therapeutic relationships I build with the people who choose me as their practitioner bring me true joy. I love maintaining the well-being of the people who keep the rest of the world running.

Modalities

Cupping therapyan ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist places special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create negative pressure with suction cups. People get it for many purposes, including pain reduction, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as an alternative to deep-tissue or myofascial release. We do not perform “wet cupping” aka blood Cupping.

Deep Tissue – slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).

SwedishOne of the most commonly taught massage techniques wonderful for improved circulation and relaxation.

Medical Massage experience – post surgical scar reduction, paralysis, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, oncology, Fibromyalgia, and other autoimmune disorders.

Trigger point – Focused pressure over an area of tension such as a muscle knot, followed by stretching of the muscle once the knot is released

Manual Lymph Drainage – Strokes intended to stimulate movement of Lymphatic fluid to reduce localized swelling and improve immune system function. Shown to be effective with Long Covid issues

Myofascial release – Used to release adhesions of muscles to the fascial layer that can cause restriction of movement.

TMJ/Migraine – Working on the muscles of the face and head to relieve pain, tension, and reduced range of motion of the jaw.

Pre/postnatal – Specific techniques to relieve the discomfort caused by pregnancy and early infant care such as shoulder and neck pain from nursing and baby wearing.

Guided or assisted Stretching and Range of Motion

Infant Massage Class package $400“Infant massage is an ancient art that connects you deeply with the person who is your baby, and helps you to understand your baby’s particular nonverbal language and respond with love and respectful listening. It empowers you as a parent, for it gives you the means by which you become an expert on your own child.” -Vimala McClure / Infant Massage, A Handbook for Loving Parents

This is a 5 class series that will teach you how to massage your baby. You will receive easy to follow written handouts as well as hands-on guidance. IInfants who experience regular massage often see reduced stress, nervous system improvements, and improved self-regulation and body-awareness. In relevant studies, parents have reported improvements in many developmental aspects like muscle tone, joint mobility, gastrointestinal issues, and response to multiple forms of therapy (such as physiotherapy). It is especially helpful for children who require extra support, including babies born premature, or those who have other failure to thrive factors. Each class may have up to 4 family units. Family unit = 1 baby + 1 to 2 caregivers.
